Born in Burlington, Vermont in 1970, Molly Carter spent her childhood in rural Vermont and in San Juan Pueblo, New Mexico surrounded by family members with careers in art, architecture and design. This heavily influenced her desire to be an artist, from a young age. She attended the Kansas City Art Institute earning a BFA in 1994 and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, receiving a MFA in 1998. Over the past two decades Carter has developed a body of work that explores formal aspects of abstract painting - form, color, balance, rhythm, shape, and space. Her work is in private and public collections, and has been exhibited nationally at institutions including the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Madison, WI, University of New York at Plattsburgh, Plattsburgh, New York, The Frye Museum, Seattle, WA, Kohler Art Center, Sheboygan, WI, Freeport Art Museum, Freeport, IL, and Art Basel - Miami Beach, FL. Carter currently resides in Rockford, IL with her husband and two children, where she works as an artist and educator.
